The two piano tracks for 'The Hollow' were recorded today. The process was a little different to what we initially intended. We ended up using MIDI instead of an audio recording. There were a few reasons why we came to this conclusion; primarily we didn't have an contacts with any flutists even after much research. However, MIDI allowed us to play around with the sound more easily after recording, it produces a cleaner and crisper sound and enabled Mark to be able to play the piano part on the keyboard controller as any mistakes could be easily adjusted. These were all positives and I am more than sure that I will be able to produce an authentic, folk sounding piano using the Kontak synthesiser in Protools.

I think this is a perfect example of how major projects never go exactly to plan there are always obstacles or changes that we need to make when undergoing the project as it's so different to what we consider in theory. This is why it's important to educate ourselves on the subject matter so we are capable of overcoming these issues when they arise.

After we changed our minds from audio recording to MIDI the session today was very successful and in a few hours, we managed to lay down the entire piano part for the 'The Hollow'. we ended up using one track for the left hand and one for the right hand so we could control them separately within the mix and make it sound more realistic.
