This week was mid-semester break, which led to some organisational issues. Lots of performers were unavailable and staff weren't as accessible. Booking the studios even became difficult due to other staff and student projects utilising this class free time.
Once we got into the studio things didn't become much easier, we faced a lot of issues with the preamps and the speakers. Once we eventually got everything working we ended up recording only about 1 minutes’ worth of material. We faced so many issues with the speakers (we couldn't hear our recording on playback) on Friday that we decided our time would be better spent going over the mix of other pieces together.

Overall Mark liked what I had done with 'The Hollow'; a heavy and bassy sounding piano with a strong attack, a very reverberant and dynamic flute along with the 'raw' sounding guitar with slight reverb, compression and equalization.
Even though I had reviewed the score there were, however, some slight changes mark wanted to make with timing and extension of notes specifically on the flute. Changes that could only be made by someone who knows the piece like the composer does. This took the piece to the next level made the parts interlock and work together even better than before. The extension of some on the notes in the flute's melody added drama and diversity that comes from a live performance. The choice of using MIDI also made the application of these changes much easier.
Even though at some stages this week it almost felt as if we were going backwards we learnt a lot about working with technology, working as a team and the reality of the EP compared to our expectations.
