It was time to present my aspect of the project in the workshop today. All went well, we received some fantastic advice about how we could improve our project artistically and in relation to the criteria. This prompted a conversation via telephone with Mark to discuss the ideas that were presented to me.
Dianna suggested that by the start of October all recording should be finished allowing us time to really polish up what we had, for example getting rid of the MIDI flute and to focus on promoting the EP further. Mark and I both agreed that this was probably for the best, as it was about quality and not quantity. As we were having difficulties arranging to get Mark's friend Dean back into the studio to finish recording due to other responsibilities, we talked with him and came to an agreement that we wouldn't use the piece for the assessment.
In relation to the MIDI flute, Mark and I decided that it would be changed to a violin. We decided this for a few reasons; Mark is also performing his composition for the repertoire and identity unit with a very talented violinist Hannah Bryant which sounds great. This was beneficial as we didn't need to find a flutist and each them piece. The instrumentation is still in keeping with the genre and having a real instrument just takes the level of authenticity further.
These changes allow us time to really focus on the quality of the 'public portal' aspects, for example, the Facebook page, Youtube, and Itunes. If we get the opportunity we will also be attempting to get one of our pieces on radio stations such as Celtic Folk Show 3CR Community Radio; a Melbourne based radio station or even a local station such as Blue Mountains Community Radio.
