Unfortunately, as I mentioned in the 'Workshopping' blog Dean was not available enough to finish the recording of his piece before the assessment due date. Therefore, Mark and I decided to bring 'Drain' to the forefront as we had the performers and capabilities to finish this piece in time. We originally thought this piece might fall to the wayside for a while and end up being released at a later date. We already had the guitar tracks that we recorded in week five so all we needed to do was record the piano and bass parts.

As soon as we made the decision to use 'Drain' I contacted Kaitlin Trojko. Kaitlin is a pianist, also studies the WSU Bachelors of music degree. Next thing i knew we were ready to record a week later. Kaitlin was obviously very familiar with the recording process. The recording of these tracks ran very smoothly. Kaitlin was aware of the two 'NT5' microphones that we typically used for piano within the university along with the process of setting up, recording and the general workings of studio communication.

Kaitlin was also well prepared, as she had practiced from the score preceding the recording session. We only ended up having a few retakes of sections. We were all pleased with the progress we made this week, and learnt a considerable amount. Kaitlin is as a talented and committed performer which allowed this piece to fall into place. The process for recording the final tracks of 'Drain' came together much quicker than any of the other pieces. I believe this was a combination of both experience and practice both in terms of the tactical and collaborative side of the project.
